Checklist of Requirements
Each Transition to Teaching candidate must complete and submit the following list of items as a requirement for admission to the University of Dayton Graduate School, acceptance into the Transition to Teaching program and to be granted an interview with the school district. Items should be submitted to:

Project Requirements:
Category 1: Application Requirements (Items to complete and submit by the deadline to apply to the program):
- Transition To Teaching application form
- Letter of interest (original and signed letter only)
- Resume
- Three (3) letters of recommendation (signed originals only)
- One (1) official undergraduate transcripts documenting a Bachelor's degree earned
- One (1) official transcript documenting all transfer credits from all institutions (if applicable)
- One (1) official transcript for all graduate coursework beyond a bachelor's degree (if applicable)
- GRE or MAT results (if applicable)
- A copy of the official Praxis I score report
- Recent criminal background check report via BCI and FBI
- Tuberculosis (TB) test report
Category 2: Items to submit upon acceptance to the program at orientation:
- Three-year service agreement
- Textbook agreement form
- Participant information form

University of Dayton Enrollment
Transition to Teaching participants must be enrolled in the University of Dayton's Graduate School to receive credit for the coursework. To apply to the graduate school, complete and submit the Transition to Teaching Application Form. There is no fee for applying. A paper application will only be accepted. DO NOT apply online through the University of Dayton website. When submitting a letter of interest, indicate that you are applying as a part of the Transition to Teaching program. Please be aware that acceptance to the University of Dayton Graduate School does not guarantee acceptance to the Transition to Teaching program.

The following list of University of Dayton courses have been approved by the Ohio Department of Education to fulfill the state licensure requirements for each step of the Alternative Pathway to Teacher Licensure in Special Education, Mild/Moderate, K-12.
1. Coursework commensurate with the Alternative Educator License
EDT 508: Human Development (3 semester hours)
EDT 570: Educating Students with Diverse Educational Needs (3 semester hours)
EDT 572: Introduction to Learners with Mild/Moderate Needs (3 semester hours)
EDT 574: Behavior Management (3 semester hours)
EDT 659: Field Experience in Special Education (3 semester hours)
EDT 575: Assessment: Mild/Moderate (3 semester hours)
EDT 576: Curriculum: Mild/Moderate (2 semester hours)
EDT 579: Instructional Strategies: Mild/Moderate (2 semester hours)
EDT 578: Applications of Computers/Technology in Special Education (2 semester hours)
EDT 600: Reading Methods (3 semester hours)
EDT 603: Teaching Reading Through Children's Literature (3 semester hours)
2. Coursework commensurate with the Provisional Educator License
EDT 601: Phonics (3 semester hours)
EDT 602: Critical Reading in the Content Areas (3 semester hours)
EDT 573: Collaborating with Families, Professionals, and Agencies (3 semester hours)
EDT 577: Career Education/Special Education (2 semester hours)
EDT 659: General Education Methods: Praxis II preparation (1 semester hours)
Note: EDT 600, EDT 601, EDT 602, and EDT 603 fulfill Ohio's 12 semester hour reading requirement
Note: The state requirement for student teaching is fulfilled through the combination of EDT 659: Field Experience in Special Education and two years of teaching under the Alternative Educator License with a mentor

Some face-to-face course instruction will be held in the participating school districts. Some monthly Professional Development workshops may be held at the University of Dayton - Columbus Center in Columbus, Ohio taking place on Saturdays.
Alternative Educator License Application
Upon completion of the Transition to Teaching program, participants will submit applications to the Ohio Department of Education for their Alternative Educator Licenses. Applications will be provided to participants during the Transition to Teaching program. The following is the list of requirements that must be provided to the Ohio Department of Education for issuance of an Alternative Educator License.
- Application for Alternative Educator License for Intervention Specialists (K-12)
- $80.00 check or money order made payable to Ohio T.E.C. (Cost subject to change)
- Praxis I test score report (official score report must be sent from testing center to ODE)
- Official undergraduate transcript documenting Bachelor's Degree
- Official University of Dayton transcript documenting 30 semester hours of training for the Alternative Educator License with a minimum 2.5 GPA
- BCI and FBI criminal background check report (report to be sent from BCI directly to the Ohio Department of Education electronically.)
