Evaluation Services:
SSCO offers quality grant and evaluation services at a reasonable cost to school districts and other educational organizations interested in improving instructional practice and student learning, strengthening relationships between school districts and their communities, meeting evaluation and performance reporting requirements associated with federal or state grants, and generally evaluating outcomes for the purpose of program improvement.
With expertise in survey research, SSCO helps school districts engage in short- and long-term resource planning (e.g., preparing for levy campaigns), and:
• Construct and use surveys effectively to gauge community views on proposed policies;
• Conduct student exit surveys and surveys on parent/student/staff satisfaction;
• Conduct focus groups;
• Conduct impact assessment; and
• Conduct case study evaluations.
Over the past year, SSCO has provided grant and evaluation services to approximately 25 districts and educational organizations, helping them gather the kind of data and information needed to make better decisions. These services included the evaluation of the effectiveness of:
• District programs, based on feedback from graduating seniors, parents and community members, and internal stakeholders;
• State-funded grant programs, such as Alternative Education Challenge Grants from the Ohio Department of Education, eTech Ohio Grants
on Synchronous Interactive Video Distance Learning;
• Federally funded grants involving the preparation of intervention specialists for children with blindness and visual impairment, and the preparation of orientation and mobility specialists and school psychologists; statewide services for children with deafblindess and their
families; and an alternative route preparation program designed to assist mid-career changers become fully credentialed as K-12
intervention specialists;
• The provision of comprehensive professional development (PD) in the effective use of Braille and related assistive technology to improve
access to challenging content for students with blindness and visual impairment;
• Awareness, networking, and PD for individuals interested in becoming school superintendents; and
• The instructional use of technology, such as Smartphones, for maximizing instruction.
In addition to providing evaluation services customized to meet district needs, SSCO also provides general assistance to districts in locating federal, state, and foundation funding sources, and in supporting proposal development and review of proposals prior to submission.
