Below are comments from the 2006-2007 substitute teacher training evaluation forms, completed by anonymous participants.

I found the training very helpful. I wish this type of training were required before I had started as a sub. Very informative! Good job!

2.
I especially appreciated the discussion on the legal aspects of substituting and on class discipline.

3.
Enjoyed this day very much. Learned some good ideas for classroom control and the need for lesson plans. Thanks.

4.
Even though I have both taught and subbed elementary for many years, I learned several new techniques and ideas - detail things. And, it's always nice to know others have the same concerns and have been in similar situations. It's nice to know we are important enough to be trained! Thank you.

5.
I feel more confident in my ability to handle situations in the future. Previously, I had nothing to draw on and felt inept. The resources you provided give me an idea of where to turn.

I am a Master's student in education and thought this would be a waste of my time. I was happy to find out it wasn't. It helped me prepare as a sub and also gave me some tips for when I am a teacher. Thank you!

This was the most helpful one-day workshop/class I have attended. You showed us statistically the most effective methods of teaching and then you used them in teaching us. I really appreciated the role-play by Dr. Stephens and Angela Dicke on what to do for a first day - very valuable. Thanks!

I feel much more prepared to enter a classroom as a substitute teacher. I found this seminar to be incredibly helpful in assuaging my anxiety. I would definitely attend future SSCO seminars in order to make me the best teacher I can possibly be.

9.
Some of my anxiety was lessened. I found the manual to be educational and extremely helpful. I appreciated the honesty of the instructors.

10.
Though I have had experience as a sub, this program is an excellent way to start answering many questions and providing quality ideas for the sub experience. I have grown with all that was shared and the classes I teach will be the direct beneficiaries of your efforts!

I have never been inside a classroom (as a teacher) and found this session very informative. The atmosphere was very supportive and encouraging while remaining a very realistic outlook on subbing.

Having no teaching experience, I found this training extremely beneficial. I especially appreciated all of the resources I was given. I don't feel like I'm left out in the cold. I have great resources to be successful.
